FAQs
Q: How do I know if my child needs speech therapy?
A: Trust your instinct! If you have any concerns about the way your child communicates, you should request an evaluation with a licensed SLP. A thorough assessment of language, articulation, oral motor, social, and fluency skills will help determine if your child needs skilled interventions. In most cases, a referral is not needed for the initial evaluation. Early intervention is key!
Q: How long will my child be in speech therapy?
A: Every child is different, and it is impossible to tell how long interventions will last. At PPT, goals are developed with functionality in mind. Treatment plans are developed about every six months, and data will be taken and assessed along the way to monitor progress and determine the most appropriate intervention plan.
Q: How much does speech therapy cost?
A: Pender Pediatric Therapy is an in-network provider with NC Medicaid and Managed Care Organizations, as well as most major commercial insurances. Even so, we are aware that the out of pocket costs for families can be high. We can provide information for grants and other payment options to help make services a reality.
Q: What do I do if I need an interpreter?
A: Most insurance plans can provide an interpreter for their beneficiaries, either via phone or telehealth. PPT can provide a virtual Spanish interpreter if needed.
